You’ve probably set a New Year’s Resolution. But how do you make sure that you’ll stick with it longer than January 2nd? It’s simple: WRITE IT DOWN. You are much more likely to achieve a goal when you put it on paper. It not only makes your goal more visual, it keeps you accountable and motivated as you mark your progress.
What is your resolution this year? Diets are so 2010 so I’m focusing on fitness this year. I’m looking forward to taking ballet, salsa, and yoga classes this year and I may even attempt to climb Mount Whitney with my dad. What are you going to do this year to try to improve your health?
Here are some ways to make your resolution last:
1. Define your goals with detail: Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to be able to lift a certain amount of weight? Or do you just want to show up? Write down your specific goals.
2. Make it visible: Write your goal and put it somewhere where you’ll see it every day. Put it above your computer or on your bathroom mirror.
3. Check it off: I don’t know about you, but I’m a checker. I love to see progress and I love to feel like I’ve accomplished something on a daily basis. 90% of life is just showing up—so give yourself credit when you do. Keep track of your progress and see yourself improve—and reward yourself when you do!
4. Love that calendar: They give you something to look forward to. Furthermore, writing your goals on the calendar is great for setting deadlines for yourself as you strive to improve.
5. Be realistic: Be kind to yourself and if you slip up, then hop back on the horse rather than sit in the mud. Don’t give up—you CAN do it!
