Water coolers are soo out. Candy is the new social bait. I’ve noticed this recently through personal experience. I keep of a trove of treats in my room and I find that people tend to visit more when they know that candy awaits them. Now hopefully, they’re also stopping by room to say hi and not just for a hit and run candy raid, but I’d like to think that it’s a win-win for everyone.
It works well in offices, too. Rather than going back and forth with 10 emails, coworkers will be more tempted to stop by your office if you have one of those nifty M&M dispensers. People love to socialize over food, especially sweets—why not have them come over to your place? Besides, walking over will cancel out the calories of a few peanut M&Ms anyway. Although I highly recommend the new pretzel M&Ms instead. Delightful.
So here is my Sunny Suggestion for the day: invest in a candy jar. See if people tend to visit you more. Unfortunately my own personal experience was not so great last night when I had some sucker-seekers because I then went on to spill my water bottle on my computer in front of my guests. But hey, I’m typing this morning, they got their suckers, and we ultimately had a good laugh. Ah, I digress.
Try it out yourself! And I recommend getting candies that other people love but you might not necessarily love. There’s nothing like the promise of an awaiting Reeses that has already been eaten by the hostess. Tacky.
