Darn it, I got sucked into another season of the Bachelorette. I thought this season would be an easy pass, but as white snake says it best…here I go again. It’s become somewhat of a tradition for my friend to host a weekly Bachelorette night during the summer and now that we’re all back from college, it’s the perfect excuse for us to catch up.
So naturally after watching one episode, I am Team Ryan P. And why? Because he’s one of the happiest guys I’ve ever seen. What kills me though is how the other guys are ragging on him. So that brings me to the question—can people be too happy? We’ve all heard of negative Nancy’s, but is there such a thing as overly happy Harry’s? I think so. I mean I loved the guy, but the other guys on the show we’re about to walk off if he flashed one more smile or one more jovial laugh.
I find it so ironic. Many people are constantly seeking the pursuit of happiness. Or joy, or contentment, or peace. They are synonymous in my opinion. Yet when someone is actually happy, people are quick to label them as annoying and exaggerative beyond all get out. That’s sad to me. But on the other hand, I get it. When I’m having a bad day and someone else is a hop, skip, or jump away from singing out how they have the best life on earth, it can get a little frustrating.
So I think it’s a balance. A few laughs, a few tears—a little bit of everything to give us a fulfilling life. But seriously, I am still Team Ryan P. all the way. My friend is Team J.P. so let’s see who wins this showdown. And if my guy loses (and let’s be honest, he probably will with that excessive grin), then I get to pick a new guy.
Let the games begin!
