My typical YouTube search was somewhat routine. Looking for an inspirational video—something to touch my heart and spark my interest. It wasn’t long before I found a video. But my perspective quickly changed. Before I continue, I encourage you to watch Ben Underwood’s video. He uses a phenomenal sense of echolocation to make up for his blindness. The boy can even play video games! I was impressed…and intrigued.
But as I began to search more, the lovely little Google toolbar started to fill in some blanks that I missed. Like the idea that Ben died. And after seconds of searching later, yes, I learned it was true, Ben had passed away. His cancer came back, and as his family said on Ben’s website, he went back to be with the Lord. My heart went blind when I learned of this story in its entirety—I was overcome with sadness.
But at the same time, I am happy to know that Ben made his mark when he did. He is a shining example that we should never be guarded by our limitations…that we should always explore our world—even when it seems there is nothing to see.
