I thought I’d share an update! As some of you may know, I’ve been interning for NBC News this summer and I’ve really enjoyed the experience. I love the people that I work with on a daily basis and I love how I never know what a day will bring. More importantly, I love having the opportunity to be so much more informed about local, national, and international events taking place. When you sit in a newsroom all day, you can’t help but get passionate about these stories that get thirty second sound bites on air. Each one takes a life of its own and I love having an insider view into the how these stories are told.
I’m exciting to say that my next step is an internship with E! News this fall. I am thrilled for this experience and I am eager to learn the ins and outs of entertainment news. As a native Southern Californian, I have grown up with the media fanfare (although, no, celebrities don’t walk along Rodeo Drive and movies aren’t really made in Hollywood per se, as many tourists think).
For those of you that may challenge me about this new venture—I understand. I am just as passionate, if not more so, about “hard news” and I think global crises, the economic standing of our country and world, along with politics and poverty are all stories that we should develop on a daily basis. I certainly want to and I plan to continue on that path. However, because modern American audiences demand entertainment media, I think it is essential that I educate myself on this particular art of broadcast. Because I am in the heart of the entertainment industry living on Wilshire Boulevard, I feel like this is a prime time for this internship and I am so grateful for the chance.
I’m excited to keep you updated and I’ll let you know how it goes. I really appreciate everyone’s encouragement and I hope you are finding happiness in your career or on your way to it!
